Hi all
In September 2021, some online escape room enthusiast friends of mine played Paruzal Games’ online escape room, named Movie Mayhem. Paruzal Games is based in the USA. Their rooms are online, live-hosted rooms that use visual aids (drawings of rooms and puzzle elements). The main point of differentiation is that Paruzal Games’ rooms are more like an audio escape room where the game master guides you through the experience.
Movie Mayhem was my 197th escape room experience. The theme of the room is as follows:
In this online escape room set in a movie theater, you have been waiting your whole life to get your grubby little teenage hands on The Golden Reel, the rarest film ever made. Will you be able to find The Golden Reel and escape before the theater opens in the morning?
Here’s what I thought of Movie Mayhem:
· the style of game play reminded me of an adventure game in the mid to late 1980s - think very simple, low quality graphics (this is not a criticism mind you, but just an observation);
· the graphics act more as a visual aid as this really is a live audio escape room, where players are guided by their game master. I suspect this type of game play would not suit everyone, but we enjoyed the experience;
· the puzzles were interesting and quite varied throughout the experience; and
· I don’t recall how long it took us to escape, but my memory is that we had some time up our sleeve. I would describe the room as a family-friendly beginner to medium room.
Movie Mayhem was an interesting take on the typical escape room experience. It reminded me of old adventure games, but with the added fun of having a game master to interact with and shoot questions at (a bit like a D&D campaign style). It was a simple but fun experience.
