In October 2021, some online escape room enthusiast friends of mine and I played Hourglass Escapes’ online escape room, named Tales of the Ghostly Galleon. Hourglass Escapes is based in Seattle. Ghostly Galleon is a live avatar room where our game master took on the role of the Banshee Buccaneer to act as our eyes and ears throughout the experience.
Tales of the Ghostly Galleon was my 198th escape room experience. The theme of the room is as follows:
Come aboard the legendary ghost pirate ship of the Banshee Buccaneer! You start your adventure at Hourglass Escapes, you have just 60 minutes to break the Buccaneer’s curse before you sink with the ship and become disembodied deckhands, doomed to swab the poop deck for all eternity! Only you can help this Ghostly zombie escape the curse!
Here’s what I thought of Tales of the Ghostly Galleon:
· this was a really fun experience. We had a great game master who played the role really well, which really added to the theming and immersion;
· the room used Zoom for the live avatar and telescape for the inventory system. It all worked well and was seamless;
· the puzzles all suited the theme very well and were pretty varied (with some logic puzzles and search and hunt fun). The telescape system allowed for some player interaction when solving some of the puzzles, which was nice;
· I don’t recall how long it took us to escape, but my memory is that we had some time up our sleeve. I would describe the room as a beginner to medium room.
Tales of the Ghostly Galleon was a fun online, live avatar room. The puzzles were interesting and the combination of Zoom and Telescape worked well together. Our team of experienced players all had fun.
