MPower Escape Rooms - The Cabin Review (Live-Experience)

Hi all

In July 2021, for my eldest daughter’s birthday, we played MPower’s online escape room, named The Cabin.  MPower is based near San Jose in California.  The room is a live experience room (although this wasn’t clear to us when booking and was therefore a disappointment).

The Cabin was my 192nd escape room experience.  The theme of the room is as follows:

Tracking your friend’s last known whereabouts, you find yourself near a cabin deep in the Bayou. You and your team will need to search for clues and crack the codes in order to solve the mystery

Here’s what I thought of The Cabin:

·         firstly, MPower did not clearly advertise that this is in fact a live experience (point and click-style game), rather than a live avatar game (which is what we had expected).   The game was $80USD, but the style of game is a point and click game that really doesn’t require a game master.  I have played similar-quality games for closer to $20AUD, the only difference is that we had a game master watching our every move (and we didn’t even need clues).  We found this really disappointing;

·         the game play itself was fine.  The photo-sphere and inventory systems worked well; and

·         the room was family-friendly and our girls enjoyed the experience.

You can probably tell from the above that I wasn’t a huge fan of The Cabin.  I think point and click games of this style should be advertised clearly and they should be priced accordingly.  The game master added very little value to our experience.

We escaped in 29 minutes and 19 seconds, which was the all time record for the room.  That’s all well and good, but I didn’t enjoy the experience.

The Cabin is a point and click style room which, despite being advertised as a live experience, really isn’t.  There are many other point and click style games of similar quality that are one quarter the price.
