Escape Barelona - Cybercity 2049 Review (Barcelona, Spain)

Hi all

One of my favourite rooms that we played in Barcelona during our November-December 2024 trip to Athens and Spain was Cybercity 2049 at Escape Barcelona.

We played a number of rooms at Escape Barcelona back to back. We started with K.O.N.G., and then played Alien The Origin and Akasha’s Legend (neither of which we enjoyed) and then we finished with Cybercity 2049. Cybercity 2049 was easily our favourite room there – it is definitely one of the best rooms on offer in Barcelona.

The story behind Cybercity 2049 is as follows:

Cyber City 2049: Inspired by a CyberPunk style and based on films like Matrix, Blade Runner and Terminator. Immerse yourself in a decaying, corrupt, and unscrupulous world.
Your decisions will be more important than ever.

Cybercity 2049 was our 367th room to date. Here is what I thought:

  • ·     the theming in Cybercity 2049 is awesome. The post-apocalyptic meets cyberpunk world was really authentic. The set design and props all perfectly matched the space. No space (including the floors and ceilings) had been missed.
  • ·     the puzzles throughout Cybercity 2049 were varied and challenging. I liked that there was a real mix of different types of puzzles, from observation and pattern recognition, through to character interactions to proceed through the experience.
  • ·     my favourite moment in Cybercity 2049 involved a character interaction like no other – it still makes me laugh over a year later when I think about my tattoo…
  • ·     I liked that woven throughout Cybercity 2049 were moments where players could make choices which would affect their path in the experience. That kind of ‘choose your own adventure’ element is relatively rare but was a lot of fun.

Cybercity 2049 was a fantastic room. For those of you who have been lucky enough to play some first-class rooms with phenomenal character interactions, you will know just how much a fun character interaction can truly lift an experience. This was 100% the case with Cybercity 2049 – our interactions made us laugh and demonstrated the real value of a skilled actor. Cybercity 2049 was my favourite room at Escape Barcelona by a large margin.
