SCRAM Escape Rooms - The Pharaoh's Tomb Review (Sydney)

Hi all

Back in January 2022, my usual team of 4 headed out to Parramatta to check out the newest rooms at SCRAM.  We were there to play 4 rooms back to back.  It was our third time at SCRAM, having played rooms before at both of their Parramatta locations.

Our third room of the day was The Pharaoh’s Tomb.  The Pharaoh’s Tomb was my 206th escape room experience.  The theme of the room is as follows:

There are many treasures and artefacts to uncover in the ancient tombs of Egypt. The most impressive treasures belonged to the Pharaoh. Can you outsmart the Ancient Egyptian's tricks to steal their treasures?

Here’s what I thought about The Pharaoh’s Tomb:

·         the theming in this room was pretty strong.  We all noticed a clear step up in the quality of the props and theming in all of SCRAM’s new rooms at its Church Street location;

·         there was an interesting mix of puzzles in this room.  I don’t recall there being too many traditional locks and keys in this room, but more a series of higher tech puzzle mechanisms (which were all well-concealed);

·         we escaped this room in good time, so I would describe this room as about a medium in terms of difficulty;

·         I think this room would be suited for families and children.  The experience is not extremely well-lit, but there are no jump scares; and

·         the puzzles all made sense in the space and followed along nicely with the storyline.

I have lost count of how many Egyptian-themed rooms I have played in the past 8 or 9 years.  My favourite is probably a room I played many years ago in Melbourne (with a heap of sand and an awesome overhead pulley-mechanism puzzle).  That being said, I thought SCRAM’s The Pharaoh’s Tomb was a strong Egyptian-themed room.  I thought the very final puzzle in The Pharaoh’s Tomb was not quite as elegant as the rest of the puzzles in the experience, which was a little bit of a shame.  We otherwise enjoyed the experience.

SCRAM Escape Rooms - The Hang Over Review (Sydney)

Hi all

Back in January 2022, my usual team of 4 headed out to Parramatta to check out the newest rooms at SCRAM.  We were there to play 4 rooms back to back.  It was our third time at SCRAM, having played rooms before at both of their Parramatta locations.

Our second room of the day was The Hang Over.  Our fourth team member had arrived by the time we started The Hang Over, so we were back to our usual team of 4.  The Hang Over was my 205th escape room experience.  The theme of the room is as follows:

Congratulations! You're getting married! Let's celebrate with a wild night out with friends before the big day.

Oh no. What happened last night?

Where are you? Where is your phone? Where is your wallet? Where is the... ring?!

Age Restriction: 18 + (Please bring ID)

Here’s what I thought about The Hang Over:

·         this room is a very cheeky room.  It kind of pays homage to the film of the same name, with a lot of elements that you might expect to find when waking up after a big night out.  Whilst there are a lot of puzzles that aren’t cheeky, there are some that make it very clear that this is an 18+ only room;

·         there was an interesting mix of puzzles in this room.  Some more traditional lock and key puzzles (with some very unique hiding locations for one of the keys…), together with some higher tech puzzles (but with all of the tech well concealed as usual);

·         there was a nice mix of hunt and seek fun thrown in for good measure too, which we always enjoy;

·         the puzzles all made sense in the space and followed along nicely with the storyline; and

·         I do not recall how long it took us to escape, but I think we were out with a reasonable amount of spare time.  My recollection is that this room was about a ‘medium’ level of difficulty.

The Hang Over is a unique room.  I have played many scary rooms, but this is probably the first (and only) room that I have played that is rated as an ‘adults only room’ but which does not have a single jump scare.  It’s cheeky and fun and we had a great time playing it.
